Drawing on humankind’s immemorial relationship with fire and the hearth, inspired by the great traditions of the past, and working actively amidst the modern trade here in North America, we provide artful, efficient, and clean ways to heat and bake with wood.
HEATERS
Masonry Heaters, known by myriad other names throughout Northern Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia, are wood burning, radiant heat stoves. Through the flue patterns within the stove, high heat generated from a short, clean burning fire is captured in the masonry mass and slowly released into the home throughout the day. Our heaters are custom designed and site built, to ensure meeting the heating goals and aesthetic desires of each client.
OVENS
Working in cooperation with Turtle Rock Masonry Heat, we provide comprehensive design and on-site construction of commercial wood burning masonry ovens to artisan bakers throughout the United States. By working with the individual needs of the baker, we are able to design high functioning ovens to meet the production, ergonomic and lifestyle goals of each situation. MATERIAL & CONSTRUCTION
Old Stone Heat specializes in custom designed, hand built heaters and ovens. In this way, we are able to offer versatile and situationally approprite options to suit the specific needs of the client, whether it be the hearth of your home or the central tool of your bakery. As builders, this approach allows us to experience the most direct connection with the work being done, as well as be able to treat each job with creative and individual attention it needs.
We make it a priority to be thoughtful and specific in our choice of materials for construction. To ensure the longevity, safety, and top performance of our work, we use only high quality firebrick and refractory materials in the core construction of our heaters and ovens.
Facing materials we work with include brick, stone, plaster, and tile. We suggest and encourage the use of regionally produced, ecological or reclaimed products for facing whenever possible. Heater and oven building for us is both a craft oriented work and aims to create a more environmentally sound way to heat and cook. The materials themselves should reflect this.
